Christiansen Dining Table

by Hickory Chair

Alexa Hampton's ability to design beautiful furniture pieces comes naturally as her father was the celebrated designer, Mark Hampton. Her classic designs with a bit of European flair can be found in the collection she has designed for Hickory Chair. One fine example of this collaboration is the Christiansen dining table.

The Christiansen dining table was inspired by Ms. Hampton's own antique drop leaf table that sits in her dining room. It has been created for those who love to entertain large groups of family and friends. When combined with the drop leaf table and fully extended this table is an impressive 216" in length and can accommodate up to 20 guests. Without the drop leaf option, the table still measures 72" in length, just the right size for most dining areas. The beautiful and exotic prima vera wood along with the timeless neo-classical lines will work with many other design styles.

Due to the size of this table it is important that accompanying pieces be equal in scale. For example, tiny little ladder back chairs would appear lost next to the table. Consider using a more substantial chair such as the Eva Side Chair, also by Alexa Hampton. The sculptural t-shaped design will add interest as well as comfort to your dining room set and the carved tassel detail on the legs is not only beautiful but adds a bit of whimsy. You can provide your own fabric for a truly custom look or you can choose one of the many fabrics that Hickory Chair offers.

The Drake Cabinet would also make a great companion piece to the Christiansen table. The glass doors in your choice of mirrored, clear or leaded glass will showcase your china and collectibles beautifully. Moreover, this versatile piece can be configured to match your needs and space requirements. For example,

  1. You can purchase just the base for use as a sideboard.
  2. If wall space is limited or you have not chosen the drop leaf option, you can purchase just the center section for a smaller hutch.
  3. Combining the base, center section and two end units will give you maximum storage and display and make a beautiful presentation in your dining room.

The Halsey Server is also a nice option for a smaller dining area. The rounded, demi-lune shape creates a pleasant contrast to the linear lines of the table and the alternating colors of wood add a striped effect for interest. This piece can be used as a server while providing storage for linens, serving pieces etc.

Serving meals at this beautiful table will certainly make holidays seem even more special. But, with proper care, this line of furniture has been designed to withstand daily use. Therefore, serving your family and guests at this table will make even everyday meals seem like a special occasion.
